The two “otai”s of the animation industry are sharing their thought on the 2D (two-dimensional) and 3D (three-dimensional) cartoon and animation. That two powerful figure in animation industry are Hayao Miyazaki and John Lasseter. Hayaou Miyazaki is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli which is famous with the legendary anime movies such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and the latest one is Ponyo. John Alan Lasseter who is although less famous and popular than Miyazaki, is the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. I found the interview very interesting and it is very clear that Hayaou Miyazaki is very fond on the 2D animation only while John Lasseter has strong extraordinary passion on 3D stuffs. Why is that?
When Hayao Miyazaki was asked why he would never make a 3-D movie, his straightforward answer is:
“I don’t know how to make it so I don’t want to make a 3-D movie.”
Besides, he realized that the hand drawings of his staffs becoming more awkward from time to time because they tried hardly to match the drawings of the computer. Thus, he decided to get rid of the computer graphics department and focusing on hand drawn only. Very radical decision rite?
For John Lasseter, he always loved stereo 3-D and it is part of his life. He always do experimentation on them and at one extent he also took his wedding photos in 3D format. Cool!!! In 1989, he believe that his team is successful in making the first stereo 3D computer animated films titled “Knick Knack“. The problem is, there is no 3D cinema theatre at that time to watch it. Quite sad huh?
Anyway, one common thing between them is “Ponyo“, the 2D animation film where Hayao Miyazaki is the Director of the film and John Lasseter is the Executive Producer. You can read the full interview here in ComingSoon.net. So, which side are you?

Who ever wrote this article sucks. It’s not even close to professional, and there are so many typos.
Why would you make an article making the readers choose which side they want to be in

November 17th, 2009 at 11:01 amI’d choose 2-D animation, because its fun and really interesting, but 3-D, looks like a cheap game, that was designed poorly, so i think 2-D is better. GOOO HAYAO MIYAZAKI!!!!
