Budak Lapok: The Animation Film in Malaysia
On this coming Aidilfitri, there will be an animation movie that will comes to the 15 cinemas in Malaysia. The interesting part is, it will be a local made animation with titled Budak Lapok. It is so rare to find the animation movie produced in Malaysia, so this must be something special. The last one if if I’m not mistaken is Putih.

The story is about three kids, Ramlee, Ajis and Sudin who are very close friends in a village called Kampong Sebatang Pinang. They were very excited to enter the soccer game and at the same time want to participate in the inter-school drama competition. Their enemies will be Sarip Dol, Megat Komeng and Brahim. Then suddenly, things became complicated when both of the soccer match and drama competition fall on the same date. What a havoc the situation will be!! Maybe some of you are familiar with the characters’ names. Yes, the characters are the tribute to the famous and legendary artist in Malaysia sometime during 1950s to 1970s. They are Allahyarham Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Datuk Aziz Sattar and S. Shamsuddin. They are very famous as the trio in Bujang Lapok series, ermm..trilogies perhaps. If compare to the Hollywood movies, they are something like the Three Stooges, but with brains.

The producer of this 90 minutes movie is Matahari Animation & Production Sdn Bhd and the director is Anwardi Jamil. The animation will be done in the mixture of 2D and 3D techniques such as in Tarzan and Futurama and the cost to produce this animation is a whooping RM2.589 million. What a figure!! It looks small to compare with the Hollywood movies, but in Malaysia it is something like a big budget movies. The film will be in Malay language and perhaps come with English subtitles too so it can be marketed in oversea. The film will be released in cinemas on 13th October 2007, meaning on the day we at Malaysia celebrate the first day of Aidilfitri. Hopefully, this animation will bring something different and success stories to animation industry in Malaysia as before this most news related to local animation is somewhat frustrating and hopeless. Wish you guys good luck and may the force be with you.
