History Textbook in Comic Format by Eastview Publications Sdn. Bhd.
Wowwww!! This is the first time I see a History textbook that is using comic as its medium. I got to know this from Pergh and this is really really cool
The title of this book is ‘Komik Sambil Belajar Sejarah’ for ‘Tingkatan 1′ (Form One) and the publisher of this textbook is Eastview Publications Sdn. Bhd. The first edition of it is published in year 2004. I believe if this type of textbook format came out when I was studying in high school (please, not High School Musical), I might love and enjoy this subject a bit. At least I can colour the comic page while reading about the Tutorial Facts
Although it cannot totally replace the normal full-text textbook functions, but it can complement it by increasing the level of understanding of the students learning the subject. Remember, Tony Buzan, ‘Master of Memory and Mind Mapping‘ also use a lot of graphics and images in his techniques and courses to help people learn and memorize quickly. Here I attached some screenshots from the textbook, courtesy of Riz.

From the cover of the book, there are two key persons involved in the making of the book who are Dianne Khoo and Norhaslinda Harun. Unfortunately, the cover does not tell who are the author and who are the artist. Anyway, based on the library catalog of PKG (Pusat Kegiatan Guru) Bukit Besar, Kuala Terengganu, both of them are the author. If that is the case, then it is a sad thing to the whole community of the comic artists in the world because nobody appreciate their involvement in the making of this book although I believe 90% of the content of this book are due to their hard work. I wish next time, any publisher of the books that use the artist work will put the artist name at the cover and mention that they are the ‘Artist’. In that way, the artist will have more “ownership” feeling of the products hence they will do their best to increase and enhance the quality of their drawings because people can see their name at the front. This is a win-win situation for both the artist and the publisher. Anyway, thanks to Riz for sharing with us about this in Pergh. It’s a cool finding dude ![]()
