This year is the 10th years for SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon. Still looks young and energetic 
This most popular cartoon show or animated sitcom was first shown on TV on 17th of July 1999. Since then, Sponge Bob and his best starfish friend, Patrick has become a pop culture phenomenon in the cartoon industry and has become the top TV series on Nickelodeon. Everybody crazy about it from kids above two-years-old to adults. Even Bruce Willis watch it and world leaders like President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown say they watch this cartoon with their children. No wonder Nickelodeon can generate $8 billion in merchandising revenue just for this cartoon. I wish I were the “towkey” huhu…So, who is the guy groping Mr. Sponge in the picture above?
In case you don’t recognize him, he is Stephen Hillenburg, the one who responsible to create this miracle, the SpongeBob and his undersea Krusty Krab gang. His interest are in marine biology and animation. What a far separate world!! Prior to his success in animation world, Hillenburg was a scientist and also a marine science educator and he taught his students at Ocean Institute by using his own comic titled “The Intertidal Zone“. His recipe for the success sounds simple where it is best described in his statement here: “We just try to make ourselves laugh, then ask ourselves if it’s appropriate for children.”
In 2004, after the SpongeBob movie, he no longer writes or runs the show, but become the Executive Producer where he will review each episode and delivers suggestions (“belakang tabir maaa…“). I wish that many educators and teachers in Malaysia can JV (Joint Venture) with the animators and cartoonists to come up with the enjoyable characters like SpongeBob for the local market. As you can see, SpongeBob brings the “Budaya Kuning” to Malaysia and we must counter it with our own culture and expand it globally. Anyway, SpongeBob ROCKS!!! |

I love spongebob.. Budaya kuning?? I think Shin Chan bring more of that compare to Spongebob.
