KAMPUNG BOY Moves Forward
Yesterday, I’ve read a news about our favourite and popular local cartoonist, Lat and his Kampung Boy works. Its about Terry Thoren, the man behind the successful animation such as The Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys, who said that he is really interested with Kampung Boy franchise. He would like to published it if Lat also interested in the idea to make it wordwide. Before this, the Kampung Boy animation has been produced and aired on Astro. I’ve manage to catch a few of the episodes.

For me, I’m prefer reading the books a lot more than watching the cartoon series because the cartoon is quite slow pace and lack the funny elements compared to the book. I really love the comic version and it is really-really naturally funny and some make me laughed out loud. I think, to make it more funny for the cartoon version, it must have the elements of humour like in The Simpsons, Futurama and Southpark. But this cannot happen since they have quite a ‘brutal’ or ‘dark’ comedy while Kampung Boy is a more ‘polite’ type of cartoon. I think this is the same scenario that I have with Dragon Ball, where I am really a fan of Dragon Ball comic but don’t like it’s anime because the anime is very slow moving. Whatever it is, I still support and respect Lat for bringing the spirit of cartoon and comic in Malaysia. For more info, please visit the news inside Utusan Malaysia.
