At the FINAS Open Day 2009, there were also some of the popular local artists and directors came to the event. We managed to take pictures with some of them as ‘Kenang-kenangan’.

Mamat Khalid, a name that needs no introduction in the local film making scene. He is a film director, screenwriter and also one of Akademi Fantasia judges. For your info, he is also the younger brother of Lat (Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid), a popular Malaysian cartoonist. Some of his films that I like are ‘Rock‘, ‘Man Laksa’ and ‘Zombi Kampung Pisang’. I like his movies since I can get his humour and jokes elements. He also once did a black-and-white film ala “Schindler’s List” which is called ‘Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang’. And suprisingly, this underdog film won many awards at the ‘Festival Filem Malaysia Ke 21′.

Ellie Suriati is a known and popular actress in Malaysia. To tell the truth, I dunno which one is correct. Is it Ellie Suriati, Ellie Suriaty or Ellie Suryati? But what I know is her real name is Ellie Suriaty Binti Omar and her works are really good. I remembered her laughable Perak accent (‘loghat‘) when she acted as a maid in one drama and she also can act as a serious character or funny character.  She seldom got the main role but her acting are superb, anytime and any roles. I first watched her acting in film titled ‘Spinning Gasing’. She is the lead and main character in that film and that was the first time I watched a local film with beautiful and excellent cinematography. Everybody at that time went to the cinema to watch that film because of that.

Harun Salim Bachik, also known as HSBC, is a popular comedian in Malaysia, was also there to give a talk on the filming career in Malaysia. Many Q&A session during his class. I first knew him as Remmy in drama series titled ‘Rumah Kedai’. Since then, he has acted in many dramas such as “Gado-Gado” and also films such as “Man Laksa“, “Antoo Fighter“ and “Baik Punya Cilok“. Currently, he is also one of the judges in reality competition, “Gelanggang Raja Lawak ASTRO“.
