It’s ‘D-WAR: Dragon Wars’ Time!!

The first time I knew about this movie titled ‘D-War: Dragon Wars‘ was through the Gempak magazine sometime ago. But during that time it is not shown in theatre yet. Yesterday, when I visit the Yahoo! Movies site, I noticed that this movie is already been released in theatres and currently is at the fourth place this week. Since the poster of the movie looks so promising, yummy and delicious, I decided to find a little more about this movie before decided to watch it or not.

So, basically it is a monster film. The big monster type that only Godzilla and Ultraman can be thrown inside the same ring with them. The storyline is something like this: A love couple from 500 years ago has been reincarnated in the present time. They must find each other in order to fight the same 200 meter serpent called Buraki that they have encountered a long, long, long time ago. This time, it’s not just the serpent but also with the army of reptilian monsters. Catchy huh? Or just sounds plain except for the monster part.

As from the production side, this film is produced by Young Gu Art Entertainment and the director of this movie is Shim Hyung-rae. Shim Hyung-rae is the same guy who involved in the Yonggary project, also a monster type movie. They spent three long years to create and produce the creature effects and that’s the reason the monsters looks gorgeously ‘beautiful’. The lead actors in these film are Jason Behr and Amanda Brooks. Well, who cares about the actors? The main actors we want to see here is the CGI stuff actors (the monsters of course). What’s other solid reason for you to watch King Kong? Although the filming location is in USA (Los Angeles, California), but it is a South Korean film and the largest-budgeted movie in that country as of 2007.

From what I’ve read, most of the critiques praised the super-outstanding visual effect of this movie but really slam the storyline and dialogue very, very hard. Even the Korean critiques also have the same opinion as the US critiques. A big KO in terms of everything except the special effect. Although the record grossing in US is very small, but in its hometown in Korea it has set the national box office record for an opening week. There goes the spirit of ‘Buy Local Product’ shown by the Korean. Well, for me, I’ll wait for the DVD.
