I’ve just watched the official trailer for Iron Man the movie. The lead actor is Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark or his alter ego, Iron Man. Before this, I thought it will be Tom Cruise based on the rumours. Anyway, let’s see how Robert Downey will perform as a comic book heroes. From what I know, he is also a hardcore fan of Iron Man. So, it should be no problem for him to get the mood. The director for this movie is Jon Favreau. Before this he was a director of Zathura and Elf movies. I have watch this guy appeared in one of The Apprentice series as he will give assignment to the contestants based on his Zathura movie.

For those who new to this character, Iron Man is one of the top comic characters from Marvel and is created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby. His first appearance is in March, 1963 in Tales of suspense #39. He soon got his own comic series without sharing with other comic in 1968 in The Invincible Iron Man #1. So, how the story begins in the comic? Well Tony Stark full name is Anthony Edward “Tony” Stark and he is known as an inventor, playboy, industrialist and millionaire by inheriting his father’s company, Stark Industries. During his visit to vietnam for an industrial mission, he is kidnapped by the Vietnamese warlord named Wong Chu after he is caught in a booby trap. Wong Chu instructed him to build a powerful weapon for him. Instead of building the weapon, he secretly build a powerful armour which is an iron exoskeleton that gives Stark a super-power strength. The armour also make sure his heart still keep beating as his heart has been damaged during the booby trap incident. He then used this suit to kill Wong Chu gang and escaped.

The storyline might have a slight difference between the comic and the movie. One example is the location Tony Stark will be kidnapped is now in Afghanistan instead of Vietnam. However, the armour suit stay true to the original design in the current Iron Man comic which is designed by Phil Saunders and Adi Granov.There will be multiple version of the armour suits in this movies. The first version of the Iron Man looks like the guy from the movie “The Man In The Iron Mask“. The armour was then constructed by Stan Winston Studios, a famous special effect company. This company portfolio included Constantine, Terminator 3, Predator, Aliens etc. That is really an impressive portfolio you can boasted of.

One important thing to notice is it will be the first film independently produced by Marvel Studios. The movie will then be distributed by Paramount Pictures. What I could say is I can’t wait to watch this movie next year. The trailer looks great especially the armour suit.Remember to watch it in cinema as it is expected to be release on May 2, 2008.
