Does Performance or Motion Capture Artists Deserve the Academy Awards’ Oscars?

Right now, there is a debate on whether the actors and actresses behind the performance capture and motion capture technique such as those blue natives in “Avatar“, Gollum from “The Lord of The Rings” and Beowulf from *ahem* “Beowulf” deserved to get the Oscars or to be nominated in Academy Awards especially in the acting categories. The debate and discussion is getting more serious after the huge and gigantic success of “Avatar” film directed by James Cameron which also got nominations on some Oscar category such as Best Picture and also those that related with technical and special effect category but non on the Best Actor or Best Actress category.

Or is it because, from the perspective of the judge or jury or panel or the old-timer (“Otai“) of the Academy Awards, those type of actings are “plastic” and not genuine and not true to the the spirit of the drama acting. Perhaps, by looking at the pictures below, you can judge whether their acting by using the performance capture or motion capture method is a genuine acting performance or not.
