THURSDAY [28-12-2006]: BRAVO MSC COMIC COMPETITION WINNERS!!

Around two or three months ago (if I'm not mistaken), MDEC had launched this exciting
competition called "MSC Malaysia Digital Comic Design Competition 2006". What the participants
need to do is comes up with the short comic which is less than 8 pages and also the proposal,
which looks something similar like business proposal.
The best part is, they will select only 10 winners and each of them will be warded with
RM15,000 grant each. Can you believe it?? 15 GRANDS!!!!! With the money, they need to continue back the comic
according what is inside their proposal.
And yer know what, there are also some whom I know that has won the award and most of them
comes from Pergh. They are Kromosom, Tarakucha (team consists of he himself, Bohrtaag, En Salim, 39 and Prem),
Sarah Joan and Azhar (PeKOMIK President). Big Congratz to them. They might still feel like dreaming

WEDNESDAY [20-12-2006]: SPECIAL REVIEW: SCI-FI & FANTASY FESTIVAL 2006.
Last Saturday, my wife and me attended the Sci-Fi & Fantasy Festival that was held at Cineleisure
in Mutiara Damansara (just next to The Curve). We are invited to join the Comics Zone
that is organized by Cedko together with Mypartners Comm. When we arrived there, we really
feel happy to meet our cartoonists and artist friends such as
Cedric, Wong, Alifstyle, Adzakael, Azhar, Gen, Wanzu, Icesoul and others.
On that day, we are very proud because we are given booth in Cartoonist Alley that is on the same row
as famous artist such as Gayour, Aie, Slaium and Michael. On that day, we sold SERRAM Episode 1, 2 and 3.
Besides that, we also give away 30 pieces of 16-pages of SERRAM that we produced this year to visitors for free.
Unfortunately, there is no merchandise of SERRAM to be sold that day. Maybe next time..
|
|
Two talks that I manage to watch are from Steve Bristow and Azhar.
Steve Bristow, a famous figure in animation industry and also one of the key person in Saladin project,
gave us talk about the Career In Animation. He shows us a lot of the wonderful images, sketches
and drawings from Saladin.
It really looks awesome with first-class standard and on par with Disney.
Azhar, the guy behind Urban Comics, gave a talk on PeKOMIK, a new association for cartoonists and comic artists. He explained about the
benefit of joining it and what are the exciting things for the members. Me also signed up instantly on that day at Azhar's booth.
|
There's also the 24 Hour Comic Challenge, first in Malaysia, where the toughest among the toughest cartoonists
will spend 24 hours from Saturday, 3pm till Sunday 3pm to create 24 pages of comic.
Altogether there are 20 participants which are the mixture of professional, amateur and beginner.
Hmm..since my stamina is below average right now (ehem..ehem..), I can't join it this year.
If I join, maybe I'll fallen asleep during the competition :D
Kudos to the Pergh members that joining it such as Azhar, Alifstyle, Invictus, Icesoul and others.
You all pass the endurance test and you're all the winners (as quoted from Cedko) :D
But the most important is, during this event that you can strengthen your relationship
with other people in this comic industry. Just like the Summer Camp or Motivation Camp.
What a fun night to have...Hopefully, next time I can also participate. Better practise now, vrempire...

The things that we were really regret is because we don't bring the camera. There's a lot of characters
walking around such as Darth Vader, Predator, Freddy Krueger and Jason that I desperately want to take
picture with them. Darn!!

There's an event called CAT (Creative Art Technology) Conference
that was held last Monday and Tuesday (6th and 7th November) at
Technology Park Malaysia in Bukit Jalil (my ex-office was there).
The special guest are the guys from the legendary Ghibli Studio.
It is famous for its animated movie such as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke
(my favourite of all time. Damn!! I love it's theme song very much).
|
They were sharing their experince on how to develop a box-office 2D animated movie.
Unfortunately, I couldn't attend it since it is held during the weekdays.
Luckily there are some Pergh.com members that can attend it and share the stories

WEDNESDAY [01-11-2006]: THE PRESTIGE: 2006 SUPERB MOVIE.
Me and my wife were just going back from watching the movie called "The Prestige", starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman.
The plot is about the rival between two magicians during the Victorian time (early 19th century).
They sabotaged each other in a dirty way and try to sneak and steal each other secret.
It looks like Batman vs Wolverine this time.
Usually I don't write review on movie although it is good, but this time, it is an
exception since it is a SUPER-DUPER-DAMNED-GOOD (SDDG) movie!!
My first impression when watching this movie is, it will be about magic and tricks.
But believe me, it will be more than that. Repeat, MORE THAN THAT.
It is quite slow at the beginning and sometimes confusing because there was a lot of flashback 'without warning'.
But later on, the pace will be faster and faster and it will get you gripping and hold tight on your sit and make your eyes
become wider and wider and wider. Christian Bale really know how to choose the movie he will act.
I'm his fan now :D
Go get the ticket now and remember to watch it very..very..very carefully..KAPOOOF!!!!
(I'll be disappearing for a while.)

MONDAY [30-10-2006]: GEMPAK 167 MINI REVIEW.
 |
Hello everybody :) I've just come back from a very long holiday, celebrating the Aidilfitri.
Now, I'm back with spirit. This bumper issue of Gempak #167 really have a lot of exciting things and news inside.
The cover story is about a 3D animation called Flushed Away. It is about a town-high-class rat that
accidentally enters the underground-sewer world of rats and frogs called Ratropolis.
There's also the news on upcoming manga-to-movie adaptation called Dororo. It has an
exciting premise about a baby that is born without 48 organs and when he grew up, he will claim them
with the 48 devils that took his organs. There is also topic on Manhwa, the Korean comic, that is
adapted into the Korean drama such as Full House. I never thought it was from a comic before.
And lastly, don't forget to read
the short comic by Fakhrul Anour called "Cantik Di Mata Kasar". It has a very 'wonderful' ending ;)

WEDNESDAY [11-10-2006]: BOA VS PHYTON MINI REVIEW.
I've just watched a movie called Boa VS Phyton. It's not a famous movie but I really want to
watch it because I am really a fan of gigantic animal movies. I can watch Anaconda and Lake Placid
many..many..many times. It has an interesting premise about one giant phyton that was escaped from a
cage in a truck and started to cause the town in panic. To catch the phyton, a giant boa from a research lab was
'assigned' to hunt it down.
Since it is a B-grade movie, don't expect to see a perfect snake like the one you see in Anaconda.
Most of the time (let's say 99.2%), the snake really looks like 3D CGI cartoon. Besides that, the size of the
snakes were really out of this world. Imagine, the size of the head of the snake is the same as the head of
a baby elephant. Anyway, for those who loves Animal Planet, just get one copy of this and 'ENJOY' ;)

TUESDAY [03-10-2006]: GEMPAK 165 MINI REVIEW.
 |
Hi guys, GEMPAK is a magazine that is in my must-buy list. The cover story
of the #165 issue is about an animation film called Open Season.
Don't know why lately the Hollywood really into
those 3D movies about animals too much until it got boring (at least for me).
They should wait for a while before another 3D film about animals coming out so
there will be more hype and excitement around.
There's also a review about superhero movie from Thailand called Mercury Man.
The costume really..really..reminds me of the black Spidey costume in coming soon Spiderman 3.
Sadly, it's not a huge success in Thailand since the people there more enjoys the comedy and horror
genre. There's a lot more in Gempak, so what you're waiting for. Got get them now!! :D
